Blog 2:15: What I Learned
Oh no, this is your last blog of the year--maybe ever, unless you have me next year ;)
For this last one, I want you reflect over your sophomore year (or for a couple of you, your junior/senior year)...recall all the highs and the lows. Now, respond to the following in a cohesive piece of writing (I don't make it seem like you're simply stringing the answers together....get it to flow. Be creative in your format if you like--write a poem!
1. What is the greatest lesson that you learned this year? (It does not have to deal with my class--it can be anything...academic or life lesson).
2. How did you learn this lesson?
3. What advice would you give an upcoming sophomore?
4. My class--if you could do it all again, what's the one thing that you learned--academic or life lesson? What would you do differently?
5. Any last words? (Be nice!)

Blog 2.13: Parody in Song* (This blog counts as 2 blogs--it's that important)
ParodyA literary or artistic work that imitates the characteristic style of an author or a work for comic effect or ridicule; a parody intelligently makes fun of a topic, but it does so in a way that is respectful of the topic
If you've heard of Weird Al Yankovic, you've heard of parody. He is known for his infamous parodies of popular songs such as "Eat It" to the tune of MJ's "Beat it". Click here for sample song parodies.
For this blog, you will write your own song parody. You will imitate the style of an identifiable, popular song--it must be identifiable by most (including myself) to make for a good parody. Write a song about SCHOOL to the tune of ______. (It doesn't have to be a current song, it could be The Star Spangled Banner or Take Me Out to the Ball Park)

Blog 2.9: What's in the Crystal Ball
Horoscope: a prediction of your future based on the alignment of the planets. You may or may not believe in it; however, that doesn't matter. Look up your horoscope on http://www.horoscope.com/ or  http://www.dailyhoroscopes.com/. Copy your horoscope into your blog (this does NOT go towards your word requirement) and then respond to the prediction set forth for you. Is it correct? How so? Do you agree/disagree with its content? How will its content affect your actions? (Use these questions as a starting point).

Blog 2.7: Rules are meant to be broken
There are rules all around us--in school, at home, on the road, in life. They are supposed to make things better, but let's face it, some rules just aren't necessary. Pick a rule that you deem to be unnecessary and argue against it. Imagine that you are convincing the person who has authority to overthrow your rule. Provide a rationale why that rule is unnecessary. You should think of their argument as well, as address the issues he/she would raise. Let's think past no cell phones in the class, please.

Blog 2.3: Mulligan
In golf there is a term called "mulligan" which basically means a do-over. When a player takes a bad stroke, they take a mulligan. Wouldn't it be nice if we were allowed a mulligan in life? Think back over your life and recall a time in which you would like a "mulligan". What happened? What was the outcome? What would you do differently? What would you like the outcome to be?

Blog 2.2: Fill in the Middle
Fill in the middle (...) of the story; you have the first and last few sentences. (Don't summary, write the actual story.
“Sam was dead to begin with. There was no doubt whatsoever about that. The moment we walked in the house we knew . . . We now understood why the sandwich lay uneaten on the kitchen counter. ”

Blog 2.1: Life MetaphorIn the movie Forest Gump, he said that life was like a box of chocolates (which is really a simile), you never know what you are going to get. In a book I'm currently reading, "One Month to Live" by Kerry Shook, he suggests that life is a rollercoaster filled with ups and downs. If Forest was in my class, I would ask him to elaborate on what he means and provide examples from his own life. Perhaps he feels that there are some moments that are hard and brittle (like a chocolate filled with nuts) or that are easy and smooth (like one filled with caramel). He would then tell me about those moments from his own life. When I got to Kerry I would ask him to elaborate on those on those highs and lows. So now, your job create a metaphor for YOUR life. Be creative and original. Then, discuss how it applies to your life and provide examples as to how the metaphor fits.
