Blog Topics: 1st Semester

16: You Be the Judge: Imagine getting caught for the worst thing you have ever done and instead of your parents or a judge sentencing you for the crime, you got to be the judge. Describe the crime and more importantly describe the penalty you would impose upon yourself for this deed. How would this punishment atone for the deed?

15: The Letter You Never Sent: A letter in the mail, an email in the inbox, a note slipped to you in the hallways...there are times when it's easier to express ourselves on paper rather than saying it. We can share how we really feel without watching the person's expression or hearing their reply right away. So now, take the time to write that letter that you never wrote. Say what you really feel to them, about whatever. Maybe you want to write it to your mom and tell her how angry you are about something. Or to your best friend and tell her how you really feel about her new boyfriend. Or to the girl in your second period who you've secretly been crushing on. Or to....you fill in the blank and take it from here. Write the letter that you never sent and never will, but at least you'll have your say write now.

14: Holiday Time: Your country needs another holiday that everyone can celebrate, and the governor has appointed you to create it. Describe your new holiday, provide the reason for it and provided the requirements/traditions associated with it (what do people do on your new holiday?).

13: Vote for Me!: Elections are a time when you'll often hear the phrase "Vote for Me"! Politicians have a "platform", the ideas and beliefs they stand on. They are also not shy when it comes to making promises to those who would vote for them. If you could run for something, what would it be? Principal? President? Class Clown? (You can be creative in your position). Share the changes you would make and what promises you would make to voter. Talk about personal qualities that you feel are important for any person running for the office and how you fulfill the qualities encouraging others to vote for you!

12: Mac & Cheese, Chips & Salsa: In some newspapers and magazines, recipes are printed along with a little story that relates to the recipe. Write down the recipe for a dish you often make for yourself (even if it'sjust peanut butter and jelly or microwave popcorn), and then compose a brief story to go along with it

11: Sad Story: We remember the good times and we try to forget about the bad. However, we must learn to take the good with the bad, and learn something along the way. Life is not always easy. Sometimes it can be downright painful! Everyone has things happen in their life that are very difficult and challenging. This is your chance to share an experience that made you feel sad. Remember to write with enough detail and emotion that those who read your story will be able to feel your pain! Perhaps it was the lost of a loved one, or pet. Maybe it involves a family relationship. Sometimes we can even feel bad about things other people say or do to us. Share an experience that put a frown on your face.

10: Animal Instincts: In this unit, we've been studying fables; a short story that teaches a lesson using animal characters. However, when authors of fables select their starring animal characters, they do with great thought. A particular animal is selected based on the trait that it symbolizes. For example, a dove generally symbolizes peace and life, while snake symbolizes mystery and temptation. Browse through the following websites and select an animal that would symbolize you. Then, write your blog detailing how that animal is a good symbol for you. Use examples from your life to defend your point.

9: The Top Ten: Your favorite magazine has asked for you input. They want to know your Top 10 _____ (insert your topic in the blank). It could be your 10 movies, greatest leaders of all time, singers, greatest hollywood couples, etc. Be creative in your topic and items that you put on your list. While this is a list, explanation and elaboration is needed. DON'T FORGET TO ELABORATE: TELL WHY THE ITEM IS ON YOUR LIST

8: Return of the Dead: You are given the opportunity to talk to one dead person and tell him/her one thing that you didn't get to before he/she passed away. Who would you pick, why that person and what would you tell him (or her)? *You don't have to pick someone that was in your family. It could be anyone.

7: News All Around Us: Church scandal, celebrity rehab, thefts, school woes and more...so many things have been happening to and around us lately. Think about recent current events (in the school, community and world) and use it as a springboard for discussion. (This is not to talk about the latest gossip, instead, it's about reacting, responding and connecting to the world around us).

6: Parents Just Don't Understand: Parents and children often claim to be misunderstood by each other. Explain one thing you think your parents (or people their age) don't understand about your generation. Attempt to explain it to them. Then explain one thing you think your parents (or adult) would say your generation doesn't understand about them and why?

5: Why I'm Famous: If you could be famous for anything, what would you be famous for? You could be an inventor, an athlete with tons of championships and endorsement deals, a Pulizer Prize-winning author, an Oscar-wimming actor, a groupie-attracting rock star, a reality-tv star or something else entirely. Describe your life as this famous person and the reason you want to be famous for this.

4: Traits: I've now read your narratives about your name and heard speeches about you. Reflecting over your entire persona, describe your BEST trait. Only one. What's the BEST thing about you? Support your answers with DETAILS--the WHY? Share a story associated with your selection. THEN, describe your WORST trait. THINK on this one, no one likes to admit their imperfections and flaws, but we all have at least one. Support your answer with DETAILS--the WHY? Share a story associated with your selection.

3: Being Nice: Describe the nicest thing that you did for someone? Then, describe the nicest thing that someone did for you? (And don't say, your parents because they gave you life). Provide the details and circumstances, and how you felt.

2: Why I Love....:write about your favorite person. Explain why this person is your favorite, how does he or she make you feel, recall a memory shared. Be thoughtful and detailed.

1: 15 Things: Inspired by Facebook, make your list of 15 Random Things about You (the slightly weird, teeniest tidbit, the things that you may have to think twice about). As with any assignment...be thoughtful and creative, but always school appropriate.
